Parenting is already a challenge on its own. During a pandemic, under work-from-home conditions and with schools shuttered through the summer, it can feel overwhelming.
As we navigate this new era of dealing with the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, it’s important to remind ourselves that this situation is unprecedented–so it’s okay to take the pressure off sometimes!
For the animal-lovers, there are several resources online that can both entertain and educate your kids.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
The Monterey Bay Aquarium in California may temporarily be closed to the public, but it is offering several live cams of otters, penguins, sharks, and other sea creatures for your viewing pleasure. There are also narrated feedings on some live cams at specified times.
Aquarium of the Pacific
The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, also offers webcam experiences of its wildlife, with cameras above and below the surface in their penguin habitat. Head over to the moon jellies webcam and watch them drift across the screen for a soothing experience.
The aquarium has also recently added an online academy, where kids of all ages can access on-demand videos and activities.
Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden
For those who want to explore mammals above sea level, the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, already well known for its hippo, Fiona, features live videos on its Facebook page.
Watch cheetahs run, enjoy feeding time with wallabies, and hang out with Fiona the hippo during guided tours of the zoo by its employees.
Explore.org
If you want to see more animals in their natural habitat, Explore has feeds from habitats around the world. What you’ll be able to see, obviously, will depend on the time zone of that particular part of the globe. Explore has a wide range of webcam feeds, from kitten rescue sanctuaries to streams from inside eagles’ nests.
