A study in Trends in Organized Crime looked at online sex advertisements during 2020 and 2021, revealing significant upticks before and during the Super Bowls in Miami and Tampa, Florida, respectively.⁠

Moreover, the research shows that the “upticks are stronger for advertisements that exhibit indicators of sex trafficking than those posted by independent sex workers, in terms of both magnitude and statistical significance.”⁠
